How Spring Seasonal Allergies Affect Your Eyes

May 21, 2022 | General

Spring has sprung, most people associate spring with beautiful flowers and baby animals. For seasonal allergy sufferers, spring does not have such positive associations. The increased pollen count and spring cleaning can exacerbate allergies, leaving you with itchy, watery, irritated eyes. Many people try to relieve by rubbing the eyes but this can make things worse.

If this sounds like you, there are some things you can do to make your eyes feel more comfortable. Avoidance of the allergen is ideal, but this can be impossible. Placing cold compresses over the eyes can give some relief. Using chilled topical preservative free lubricants, can also give relief and dilute whatever is aggravating your eyes. If this is not enough there are topical antihistamines and other anti allergy medications that can be prescribed. If you feel that your itchy eyes are causing you an issue then book an appointment.
